Our Story

Building an RV resort isn’t a decision anyone makes lightly. It’s a big deal—an all-consuming process that demands your heart, soul, and everything in between. For us, the reasons for taking this leap all trace back to one transformative moment. That moment happened on a summer day in Maine, during what I can only describe as one of the worst RV camping days ever.

If you’ve ever had one of those days, you’ll understand. If not, bear with me—it’s quite the tale.

This story begins with the photo above - my absolute favorite photo of my children. The journey leading up to that photo planted the seed for what would become Lake Belle RV Resort. It was 2013, and Kenny and I had planned a family adventure through Maine in a rented Class C RV. We’d RV’d before, but the kids were too young to remember those trips. This time was going to be different. This time, we would create the memories that would inspire a lifelong love of RVing in our family.

We planned for months, meticulously organizing every detail to ensure nothing would go wrong. But life, as it often does, had other plans.
Just before the trip, I broke my ankle and needed surgery. Undeterred, we postponed the trip a few weeks, scrambled to rebook sites, and adjusted to the reality that I wouldn’t be driving—or doing much of anything. From the start, things went downhill.

The kids fought about everything—where to sit, what music to play, the temperature in the RV. They were hot. They were cold. They were never happy. I’m convinced they made a pact to disagree on every possible detail. Kenny bore the brunt of their complaints, while I, buoyed by post-surgery pain meds, offered helpful suggestions about how he could manage things better. Strangely, he didn’t find this helpful.

When we finally arrived at the campground, everyone’s nerves were fried. As if the day hadn’t been chaotic enough, we discovered that we had to switch sites. That’s when we realized our slides wouldn’t retract. So, naturally, we drove—slides out—to the new site and set up camp all over again. By then, we were emotionally drained, physically exhausted, and desperately in need of a break.

We headed to the beach. It was quiet—just what we needed. Kenny fiddled with his new camera. The kids, used to Florida’s sandy shores, tried to figure out Maine’s muddy coastline. I sat back, letting the stillness of the moment take over.

That’s when it happened.

My son, Owen, found a walking stick and ventured to the water’s edge, determined to conquer the thick, squishy mud. My daughter, Annabelle, stayed back, cautious and calculating her approach. As Owen made his way back, I assumed he’d move on to his next adventure. Instead, he held out his hand to his sister.

And Annabelle took it.

These two kids, who hours earlier had been at each other’s throats, were now walking hand in hand toward the water. It was a quiet, magical moment—one I’ll never forget. Thankfully, Kenny captured it in a photo. That photo is my favorite. Not because of its composition or lighting, but because it represents everything I love about RVing. In that moment, Owen was kind and strong enough to offer help, and Annabelle was brave and grateful enough to accept it. RVing has its challenges, no doubt. But it also brings you close to nature in a way few experiences can. Nature has a way of calming our souls, opening our hearts, and bringing out the best in us. It allows us to pause, reboot, and connect—with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us.

This is why we built Lake Belle RV Resort (and yes, it’s named after Annabelle). We wanted to create a place where you can step away from the chaos of the road and immerse yourself in nature’s grand theater. A place where you can discover your own magical moments, big or small.
We’ve worked hard to think of every detail so you can focus on the things that truly matter. We can’t wait to hear your stories, see your favorite photos, and share in the magic that’s waiting for you here at Lake Belle.
